چکیده

In the last two decades use of yeasts as new probiotics has increased significantly. Therefore, our current research was focused on investigation for novel probiotic development in Bali. The main objectives this were to isolate and characterize isolated from ragi tape (dried mix cultures microorganisms normally used fermentation rice or cassava Indonesia) ketan (fermented sticky rice) possible yeast-based probiotics, with capability assimilate cholesterol vitro. study, potential yeast isolates evaluated survival at low pH conditions (pH 2, 3, 4) high levels sodium deoxicholic (NaDC), concentrations 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 mM. addition, also their ability vitro elucidate biotransformation cholic acid into deoxycholic acid. This study led 10 that resistant 4 NaDC concentration higher than 0.4 Most those found rate between 18% 76% 24 hours incubation. test, none transformed acid, indicating they are safe have be developed either human cattle

Cholesterol-Lowering Probiotics as Potential Biotherapeutics for Metabolic Diseases

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of deaths in adults in the western world. Elevated levels of certain blood lipids have been reported to be the principal cause of cardiovascular disease and other disabilities in developed countries. Several animal and clinical trials have shown a positive association between cholesterol levels and the risks of coronary heart disease. Current ...

Cholesterol-Lowering Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics: A Review of in Vivo and in Vitro Findings

Probiotics are live microorganisms that promote health benefits upon consumption, while prebiotics are nondigestible food ingredients that selectively stimulate the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics and/or prebiotics could be used as alternative supplements to exert health benefits, including cholesterol-lowering effects on humans. Past in vivo studie...

Intestinal Probiotics: Interactions with Bile Salts and Reduction of Cholesterol

Probiotics mainly reside in host intestinal tract, where they interact with bile salts and ingested cholesterol. This paper reviews the recent progresses of probiotics on the following issues, i.e. bile salts effect on membrane composition; probiotic tolerance and modification of bile salts; the mechanism of probiotic removal of host cholesterol; and the roles that bile salt hydrolase plays. © ...
